Audition for a Lyric Theatre Show

Audition for a Lyric Theatre Show

Lyric Theatre @ Illinois is announcing general auditions for Fall 2021.

The pandemic has made it harder to commit publicly to performances in advance, but we are working hard to develop a plan for next season! Right now we are anticipating three productions before the end of the fall semester:

Fun Home (Jeanine Tesori/Lisa Kron)
Lyric Theatre Under the Stars at Allerton (popular opera and lyrical MT)
The Marvelous Wonderettes (jukebox musical of 1950s/60s pop hits with book by Roger Bean)

We will hear auditions in the Tryon Festival Theater Friday April 30th starting at 2:30pm. Stay tuned for a sign up process, led by Matthew Rohan, stage manager. In the meantime, prepare the following in consultation with your voice teacher:

a one minute contemporary monologue;

32 bars of a song in the style of Fun Home;

32 bars of a 1950s/60s pop song;

song or aria of your choice.

BMAs are required to prepare all of the above. All other students must present the monologue and any or all of the above. We don’t expect that we will have time to hear all the songs prepared. An accompanist will be provided, or you can bring your own.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Maria Molter (mmolter2@illinois.edu) or any of the Lyric Theatre faculty
