Concerto Urbano

The Concerto Urbano Baroque ensemble, directed by Professor Charlotte Mattax Moersch, is a student ensemble dedicated to the performance of early music on period instruments from the University of Illinois’s instrument collection. Students explore historical playing and singing styles in repertoire from the late Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical periods. Past concerts have featured music from diverse national styles, including Ortiz, Cavalli, Strozzi, Charpentier, Couperin, Leclair and Bach. The ensemble also collaborates with the opera and dance departments in fully staged productions of Baroque operas.

Concerto Urbano is open to undergraduate and graduate instrumentalists and singers.  Preference is given to School of Music majors.  String players use Baroque instruments from the University of Illinois collection.
