Standards of Conduct

For the safety and well-‐being of all students attending Fine & Applied Arts Summer Programs, the following STANDARDS OF CONDUCT will be in effect for the duration of the program. Students in violation of these regulations risk expulsion. Refunds will not be authorized.

FAA Summer Programs celebrate and value diversity as a strength. We intentionally cultivate an inclusive climate in our daily endeavors as faculty, staff, and students. We are committed to respecting differences; accepting multiple perspectives; and striving to identify, disrupt, and rectify bias, prejudice, and oppression in our classrooms and community.

  • Students participating in any FAA summer program are expected to attend all instructional classes and activities, and to exhibit proper behavior in all campus facilities – academic, residential, dining, and recreational.
  • All program participants must cooperate with University staff in the performance of their duties, and respect the care of University facilities. No cleats or skates are to be worn in any University building.
  • All participants must occupy the rooms to which they are assigned. Security and contact with students in case of emergency make this essential.
  • All resident participants are required to report to all scheduled head-checks and to remain on their floor after curfew. Students must be in their assigned rooms. Running in corridors and stairwells, loud and disruptive behavior, and the playing of electronic devices at unreasonable levels are not allowed in the residence hall.
  • Program participants must leave the residential facility in response to fire alarms or other emergency situations at the direction of the facility or program personnel.
  • The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is committed to promoting a healthy, smoke- and tobacco-free environment for all students, employees, and visitors on its campus. Smoking and the use of all non-combustible tobacco products and non-FDA approved nicotine delivery devices and products are prohibited on all campus property, both indoors and outdoors.
  • There is to be no co-educational visitation in the residence halls. Under no circumstances should any participant enter the floor or room of someone of the opposite sex.
  • The use of illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages is not allowed while attending the program. Students found to be in violation of this regulation will be sent home.
  • Firearms, knives and other weapons of any type and toys that resemble them are strictly prohibited; illegal gambling is strictly prohibited.
  • Individuals will be charged for vandalism, lost keys, and non-returned meal cards. The student is responsible for keeping the room door locked. Any damage costs incurred in individual rooms will be charged to the occupants of those rooms. An inspection is made when rooms are vacated. Posters, memo boards, staples, or nails may not be used on dorm doors and furniture may not be removed from rooms or public spaces. Parents/guardians are responsible for loss, property damage, induced accident or injury, costs of mischievous fire alarms, and other expenses incurred by the student while attending an FAA summer program.
  • Participants are expected to attend all instructional classes and required performances including final concerts except for illness or other pre-approved circumstances.
  • Participants may not bring or operate any “wheeled” vehicles (including but not limited to skateboards, bicycles, rollerblades, etc.). Participants must travel on campus by foot during ISYM.
  • ISYM is not responsible for loss of or damage to property, induced accident or injury, costs of improper use of fire alarms and any other expense incurred by the participant while attending ISYM.
  • ISYM reserves the right to withhold privileges and/or dismiss any participant at any time for any of the following reasons: possession or use of alcohol or illicit drugs, unacceptable dress, vulgar or discriminatory language or improper conduct.

Student Medical Form

Your ISYM check-in will not be considered complete until the Student Medical Form is received. This form must be on file by the first day of camp. ISYM does not require a physician’s signature on the Student Medical Form, nor is a physical exam required. Pre-existing medical conditions should be noted on the camper’s medical form. If campers are taking medication, please notify your floor counselor. Insulin and similar medications will be refrigerated as required. Campers requiring regularly scheduled dosages or the use of insulin must notify the head counselor at check-in. These medications will be stored in the ISYM office at ISR. ISYM Staff will not administer medical treatments (shots, eye/ear drops, etc.). It is recommended that individual needs of campers be discussed with the floor counselors during the first day of camp. The University and ISYM do not provide medical insurance coverage for participants.

Medical Care

There is always a counselor on “sick call” 24 hrs. a day during camp to whom students can report for any medical needs. First Aid supplies and over-the-counter medications are available in the main ISYM office at ISR. Medical services are available within the Urbana-Champaign area 24 hours a day, including emergency care at Carle Foundation Hospital and Clinic. Those needing medical attention are taken to an urgent care clinic for treatment (in most cases). The ISYM staff will contact you immediately by calling the emergency number(s) given on the medical form. Every attempt will be made to make contact with the person(s) listed on the medical form. In the event one cannot be contacted, ISYM will leave a detailed message whenever possible. In the case of serious illness or medical emergency, the advice of the attending physician will be followed. It is the responsibility of a parent or guardian to pay for any medical treatment given during ISYM. This includes (but is not limited to) medication or prescribed drugs, surgical procedures, and emergency transportation.

General Information Early Arrival / Late Departure

Payment for the extra night(s) must be remitted in advance online or made at the time of arrival. The student will be housed in the room that s/he will occupy during the upcoming session.
