Violin Audition Requirements
Undergraduate requirements (BM, BME)
- One etude or caprice
- Two contrasting movements from a Bach solo sonata or partita
- The first or third movement of a concerto
Performing all requirements from memory is preferred but not required.
Recorded auditions:
An on-campus audition is strongly encouraged, but in the event that a candidate is unable to travel to campus, the School will accept a recorded audition with virtual interview follow-up instead of a live audition.
Undergraduate applicants who would like to submit a recorded audition should follow the steps outlined here. All submitted materials need to have been recorded after Sept. 1, 2022. All students who submit a recorded audition will have a virtual interview with the faculty, and applicants will perform their instrument during the virtual interview. Applicants can select their date preference on their supplemental music form.
*Note that pre-recorded auditions will no longer be accepted for application. Rather, candidates who are unable to travel to campus for an on-campus audition will complete a virtual audition.
