Electric Violin Audition Requirements

Undergraduate requirements (BM, BME)

Audition material totaling 15-25 minutes, from which the audition committee will choose excerpts. The audition should consist of three or more pieces in contrasting styles of your choice. These can be on electric violin alone, with backing tracks, or with other musicians. Original material and improvisations are welcome. Undergraduate applicants who would like to submit a recorded audition should follow the steps outlined here. All students who submit a recorded audition will have a virtual interview with the faculty. Applicants can select their date preference on their supplemental music form.

Graduate requirements (MM, DMA, AD)

Audition material totaling 30-40 minutes, from which the audition committee will choose excerpts. The audition should consist of four or more pieces in contrasting styles of your choice. These can be on electric violin alone, with backing tracks, or with other musicians. Original material and improvisations are welcome. *Applicants for the Artist Diploma program should prepare 30 minutes of music, using the DMA audition requirements as a guide.

Graduate applicants who would like to submit a recorded audition should upload the audition directly to their Graduate College application. Graduate applicants who submit a recorded audition will also register for a virtual interview with the faculty. Applicants can register for their interview after submitting the Graduate College application.​
