Hindsley Symphonic Band
The Hindsley Symphonic Band is the third of five concert ensembles within the University of Illinois Bands and is named after the second Director of Bands at the University of Illinois, Mark Hindsley. Hindsley continued the great legacy of Illinois Bands through his high expectations for performance. In addition to performing newer works of the time, Hindsley was also known for his magnificent orchestral transcriptions. Comprised of a mix of music and non-music majors, this ensemble continues that legacy today with programs that feature new works for winds and standards within the repertoire. Concerts for the Hindsley Symphonic Band are held on campus in the Great Hall of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The ensemble is open to both music majors and non-majors by audition the first week of classes each semester.
