About Jooae Cheon
Bio
Jooae Cheon won numerous competitions in South Korea, including the Korea Herald Music, Music Education Newspaper, National SURI Music, Music CHUN CHU, and EUMYOUN competitions. Also, she was mentioned as a semi-finalist in Washington International Competition in 2021 and was nominated as a finalist in the Krannert Debut Artist Competition in 2022.
She has performed in concerts and recitals at Yamaha Hall in Korea, University Commons Concert House, and Kerry Town Concert House in Michigan.
She has performed in numerous masterclasses and festivals across the United States, in Germany, Austria, and France with world-renowned pianists, including Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Boaz Sharon, Billy Eidi, François Thinat, Pascal Rose, Rolf Plagge, and Björn Lehmann.
Cheon was mentioned as an honor student in Seoul Arts High School and got a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Seoul National University in Korea. She holds two Master of Music degrees in piano performance and chamber music from University of Michigan Ann Arbor. She currently pursuing her Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature under the tutelage of Prof. Timothy Ehlen at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she is the first recipient of Franz Liszt Fellowship. Her teacher includes Soo-Hee Auh, Prof. Hie-Yon Choi, Prof. Ian Hobson and Prof. Christopher Harding.
She is currently working as a piano instructor at the Illinois Community Music Academy and has a 21st Century Music Concert at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in 2023.
