Music Education Student Receives NAfME Award
Congratulations to senior music education student (Technology concentration), Brendon Culloton, for receiving the 2020 Professional Achievement Award from the National Association for Music Education collegiate division! Brendon served as the University of Illinois NAfME Collegiate Chapter president during the 2019-2020 academic year.
During this time, he helped facilitate 48 collegiate chapter members—the largest representation our chapter has shown—in traveling to the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) state conference. Under his leadership, the chapter nearly doubled their membership, they developed a new website that is more accessible to all members, and they have a consistent social media presence. Soliciting members’ feedback through surveys, Brendon coordinated two highly attended professional development events per month for the group based on their needs and interests.
In addition to his outstanding leadership, Brendon also presented a research project at ILMEA in January, 2020 entitled, “Scratching, Beat Matching, and Phrase Catching: A DJing Workshop.” His dedication to the field of music education is a model for preservice teachers across the country, and we are so excited for his future career! Brendon’s achievements will be honored during the virtual NAfME Reimagined National Leadership Assembly on June 25, 2020.
