Graduate Trumpet Ensemble Selected as Quarter Finalists at the National Trumpet Competition
The U of I trumpet studio is pleased to announce that the graduate trumpet ensemble has been selected to perform as a quarter finalist in the small ensemble division at the National Trumpet Competition.
Scheduled for March 8-10, 2018, in Denton, TX at the University of North Texas. Members of this ensemble include graduate students Donny Albrecht, Brian Galli, Nicole Gillotti, Saori Kataoka, Sam Loomis, and Brandon Pauley. They will be performing Erik Morales' Birds of Paradise, a composition for six trumpets.
The National Trumpet Competition is an annual event held in various locations throughout the United States. For the past 25 years, NTC has showcased the talents of trumpet players ranging from ten years of age through graduate students. The ensemble will also attend masterclasses and concerts featuring premiere trumpet artists and faculty from around the world.
In preparation for this event, the ensemble has been rehearsing on a weekly basis since the beginning of the Fall 2017 semester, with guidance and coaching from U of I trumpet professors Ronald Romm and Charles Daval.
Ensemble member Brian Galli will also be performing as a graduate semifinalist in consideration for the final solo round.
Supported by Dr. Jeffrey Magee and the School of Music administration, the group has received travel funds in the name of generous donor Mrs. Virginia "Ginny" Uhlenhop.
