Donald Schleicher Appointed to Dan J. Perrino Chair in Music
Professor Donald Schleicher has been appointed the new Daniel J. Perrino Chair in Music. He joined the University of Illinois faculty in 1995 and has since led the Orchestra Division and conducted the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra (UISO). In his career, he has conducted every level of orchestra from professional (Detroit, Taiwan, Quad Cities) to college and university orchestras (Michigan, Eastman, Oberlin, Rice), summer festival ensembles, all-state groups, and other ensembles such as bands, choirs, and musical theater and opera pit orchestras.
Professor Schleicher is internationally respected as a master conducting pedagogue, leading clinics and workshops on four continents. Recent achievements include a concert and recording of music by Augusta Read Thomas with the UISO and faculty soloists (Nimbus Records, 2014), and clinics and orchestra concerts in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Daniel J. Perrino Chair in Music is endowed by Sheila Johnson (B.S. Music Education ‘70) to support faculty work in the Music Education and Orchestra Divisions.
