Christos Tsitsaros Premieres new composition at National Conference
Christos Tsitsaros, Professor of Piano Pedagogy, recently attended the premiere of his new work Fantasy for Oboe, B-Flat Clarinet and Piano in Baltimore. The work was one of two newly-commissioned works featured as part of the ongoing Collaborative Commissioning Project of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). The performance was part of the MTNA annual National Conference.
Fantasy was performed by Dan Willett (oboe), Wesley Warnhoff (clarinet) and Janice Wegner (piano). All three performers are faculty members of the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Since 2011, the program "From the Pen to the Premier" commissions two professional composers every year to write a trio in order to encourage collaborative playing among students.
In 2014, Prof. Tsitsaros was named Distinguished Composer of the Year by the MTNA for his piano composition Three Preludes for Solo Piano: A Mythical Triptych (Hal Leonard, 2014.) Dr. Tsitsaros presented the winning composition at the 2015 MTNA National Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Fantasy is published by Hal Leonard.
