Vocalists Earn Prizes at Central Regional NATS Competition
Twenty singers from the School of Music competed and earned awards in the Central Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (CRNATS). In total, over 1,200 vocalists representing schools of music from Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri, competed online on October 31 and November 1.

Bridget Sweet Publishes New Book on Teaching the Adolescent Voice
The changing adolescent voice counts among the most awkward of topics voice teachers and choir directors face. Adolescent voice students already find themselves at a volatile developmental time in their lives, and the stresses and possible embarrassments of unpredictable vocal capabilities make participation in voice-based music an especially fraught event. In this practical teaching guide, Associate Professor of Music Education Bridget Sweet encourages a holistic approach to female and male adolescent voice change.
UI Students Sweep in Vocal Competition
University of Illinois students swept the recent competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Chicago Chapter, the second largest in the nation!

Singers Advance in National Competition
Seven U of I vocalists advanced in NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Regional Semifinals; 2 will continue to the National Finals.
Congratulations to first place winner Molly Abrams and second place winner Gabby LaBare who will continue to the National NATS vocal competition. Kate Stenzel received honorable mention.
Other semifinalists were Landon Westerfield, Maggie Wolfe, Mady Simanonis, and Riley Wilson.
Collaborative pianists were Cadis Lee and Alfie Kiu and the competition was hosted by SIU-Edwardsville on October 28th, 2018.
