Graduate Careers and Alumni

An MM or PhD in Musicology can lead to several careers. Alumni are employed in a variety of fields: as professors at large research universities, small liberal arts colleges, and other institutions around the world; in positions in the performing arts that draw on musicological expertise; as academic professionals and administrators in higher education; as archivists, librarians, and information technology specialists; and as professionals in other domains.

Graduate Careers and Alumni

Students from our programs have taken positions in music librarianship by completing an MLS degree (Master’s in Library and Information Science, offered through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science) in addition to the MM or PhD in Musicology.

“Not only were my faculty mentors fantastic during my time in graduate school but [they] have often continued to support my early career in various ways since graduation” (Former MM/PhD student)
