Musical Theatre

Program Description

Musical Theatre is comprised of workshops designed to prepare interested singers and actors for the musical stage. Workshops are provided during the week in movement, choreography, vocal technique and literature, musical and dramatic coaching, stage craft, auditioning and diction.

Eligibility

For students completing grades 8-12.
The program is limited to 15 soprano/alto and 15 tenor/bass voices.

Costs

Resident – $850 (includes housing and all meals Sunday dinner through Friday breakfast)
Commuter – $600 (includes Sunday dinner and lunch Monday – Thursday)

Commuters are encouraged to stay on campus to participate in evening activities.
A Monday – Thursday dinner package ($63) can be purchased in the Counseling Office on the first day of camp during registration.

ISYM Musical Theatre camp culminates in a final performances of musical theatre scenes selected to showcase each year’s group of students and is free and open to the public.

Application Materials

  • Submit the ISYM Application Form.
  • Submit a video of yourself singing 32 bars from the standard musical theater repertoire. Accompaniment is not required.
  • Review of applications will begin April 1, and then continue on a rolling basis until the program is full.
  • This program is expected to fill, so apply early!

Lyric Theater Scholarship for college tuition

These students are selected by their musicality, vocalism, stagecraft, and collegiality throughout the week of ISYM. It should be noted that this 4-year full tuition scholarship to the Lyric Theatre @ Illinois Bachelor of Musical Arts program is contingent upon admission to the University of Illinois.
