The Krannert Center’s 2026 Hip Hop Convene was featured in three different articles in The Daily Illini.
The first article, Krannert connects hip hop culture, community with 2026 Hip Hop Convene, highlighted the event held at KCPA, the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures, the Music Building and Gallery Art Bar.
The second article, Hip-hop karaoke brings performance, community to Spurlock Museum, interviewed Associate Professor of Music Education Adam Kruse, co-director of the Dr. William Patterson Hip-Hop Innovation Center. “As an educator, the most important thing that hip-hop is an emancipatory and an empowering way for young people experiencing many forms of oppression to be able to tell their stories, speak their truths and speak back to the world,” Kruse said.
The third article, Women redefine hip-hop through rhymes, resistance, representation, featured discussions and performances of women in hip-hop, including Asha Omega, Suzi Analogue, and U of I alumni Klevah and TRUTH of Mother Nature. Dr. Carolyn Randolph-Kato, Director of Engaged Research in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, was the moderator for the panel. The event was recorded for an upcoming episode of the Campus Culture Illinois podcast with School of Music Assistant Professor of Audio and Recording Technologies Lamont Holden aka TheLetterLBeats.
