Jackson Govern (MM ’26) has recently been selected as a semi-finalist for the North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition. 25 saxophonists from around the country were selected to advance to this round after a pre-recorded round that took place in the Fall. This is one of the most prestigious saxophone competitions in North America.
Jack Govern is a second-year master’s student in Saxophone Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he studies with Dr. Nicki Roman. He previously earned his Bachelor of Music at Illinois under the instruction of Professor Debra Richtmeyer.
Jack has studied and performed in various settings throughout the United States and Europe. He was recently recognized as a finalist in the MTNA Young Artist Competition and as a semifinalist in the 2024 North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition. As a member of the Eos Saxophone Quartet, he received second place in the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. At Illinois, he is an active member of the Illinois Wind Symphony, Saxophone Ensemble, and the graduate saxophone quartet.
The North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) is the largest organization in the western hemisphere dedicated to the establishment of the saxophone as a medium of serious musical expression.
