Alumna Noël Wan won Second Prize in the 2021 Orford Music Awards held in Quebec, Canada this August. She also was the semi-finals Audience Award winner. Her program featured her own transcriptions of demanding works by J.S.
University of Illinois alum and clarinetist Master Gunnery Sgt. John Mula is a member of the “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, which provided music for the swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol while seated directly beneath the inaugural platform.

The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board recently awarded Justin Vickers (DMA '11) a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to conduct research at University of Surrey, Guildford, in the United Kingdom.
Debra Richtmeyer, Professor of Saxophone, recently served as a juror for the The Adolphe Sax International Saxophone Competition.
Alumnus Zhen Piao (AD, MM '17) has won First Prize in the Lynnwood Farnam Organ Competition. The international competition, sponsored by the Montreal Chapter of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, took place at May 18th at St. James United Church in Montreal.
Dr. Charles W. Lynch III joins Arizona State University's Herberger Institute for Design and Arts School of Music faculty this year. Dr. Lynch also heads the Mesa Public Schools harp program as Harp Specialist.
Rocio Lima was recently appointed Principal Flute with Ecuador's Orquesta Sinfónica de Guayaquil. An Ecuadorian native, Rocio completed her Master of Music at the University of Illinois with Professor of Flute Jonathan Keeble where she currently studies as a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate.
Jennifer Kempe, an alumnae of the University of Illinois Horn Studio, has won a position with the U.S. Army Field Band following an audition this past February.
