About Tyler Katz
Tyler Katz (they/them) serves as the Program Coordinator for Public Engagement at the University of Illinois School of Music. In addition, they are a composer, violinist, theorist, and educator.
Programmed by esteemed ensembles such as the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, JACK Quartet, Ensemble Accroche-Note, Found Sound Ensemble, and the Passepartout Duo, Tyler’s music has been performed around the country. They received their M.A. in music composition at the University of Iowa with a principal instrument in violin performance, and they completed two degrees from the University of Miami, receiving a B.M. in Music Theory & Composition with a principal instrument in violin performance from the Frost School of Music, and a B.S. in applied computational physics with minors in political science and mathematics. They have taught aural skills and music theory at the University of Iowa, and have performed around the country and have toured internationally with numerous orchestras. Their music has been performed at the Midwest Composers Symposium, zFestival, and the Allentown Symphony’s New Music Chamber Series at Miller Symphony Hall. After spending four years working at Lehigh University and a year working in Florida, Tyler now resides in Champaign, IL.
