About Rebecca Spennetta
With nearly 12 years of experience in academic advising, I’ve had the privilege of guiding students through some of the most pivotal moments of their educational journeys. My background also includes work in student conduct, registration and transcript services, and veteran’s educational benefits – areas that have deepened my understanding of the systems students must navigate and strengthened my commitment to advocating for their success.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in art history and a master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University, and I’m currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Sciences and Education Policy at the University of Illinois. My academic path reflects my belief in lifelong learning and my passion for higher education policy and practice.
Before entering higher education, I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999 to 2004 as an airframe mechanic for F/A-18s and C-130s, as well as a training NCO for the maintenance department of an aviation squadron. I deployed to Iwakuni, Japan in 2001 and Ahman al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait in 2003. Those experiences taught me discipline, adaptability, and the value of service. These are qualities I bring to my work with students every day.
Above all, I have a son who inspires me daily to stay curious, compassionate, and resilient. My approach to advising is rooted in empathy, experience, and a sincere desire to help each student find their path forward.
