About Junhong “Ivan” Jiang

Junhong “Ivan” Jiang is a classical pianist born in Guangzhou, China. At the age of sixteen, he performed the complete piano etudes by Frederic Chopin at the Middle School attached to Xinghai Conservatory of Music. In the United States, he has performed on stages including Boston Paramount Theater, Auer Hall, PepsiCo Recital Hall, Smith Recital Hall, and Foellinger Great Hall at Krannert Center. Additionally, he has played in masterclasses with leading figures such as Pascal Rogé, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Bernd Goetzke, Arie Vardi, Paulina Zamora, Awadagin Pratt, Alexander Korsantia, and Ian Hobson. He has studied piano extensively with Timothy Ehlen, André Watts, Max Levinson, and Jin-Song Xian. Jiang is currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance and literature advised by Prof. Timothy Ehlen at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
After completing the master’s program and Artist Diploma at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Jiang was awarded the Ross Fellowship to pursue the doctoral degree at University of Illinois. Over the years, he has worked as accompanying graduate assistant, theory teaching assistant, and instructor at the Piano Laboratory Program. He has performed with Sinfonia de Camera, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and Boston Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, both as the soloist and orchestral pianist. Additionally, he is the pianist at two churches in the local area.
Most recently, Jiang has won UI Symphony Orchestra concerto competition, Masters of Piano Concerto from Great Composers Competition Series (Online), MAP International Music Online Competition. He was also recognized as Runner-Up in Classical Piano Fellowship Competition by the Luminarts Cultural Foundation, finalist at Artist Presentation Society Competition, and four-time finalist by nomination for Krannert Debut Artist. Besides, he has participated in festivals with full tuition coverage including PianoTexas and many other international music festivals. For pastime, Jiang enjoys socializing with people, exploring national parks, and playing video games on his PlayStation V.
