Illinois Summer Harp Class
The 2021 Summer Harp Class is virtual this summer! Join from anywhere for an interactive and creative community experience. Sessions include: masterclasses with Ann Yeung; workshops and presentations by Julia Kay Jamieson, Molly O’Roark and Noël Wan; featured performances by Daniel Benedict, Dai-An Liu, and Renée Murphy; and other online offerings and topics (Extras) during social times, and Q&As. Participants can participate in a new online-enhanced creative work by Julia Kay Jamieson and playing in the final Participants Concert Event. Registered auditors may attend events. Private sessions can be arranged with any of the workshop presenters by contacting them directly for fees and scheduling.
Julia Kay Jamieson – Zoomprovisation
Interactive workshops to create a new work together using improv. Work on expressive gestures and textures and patterns and enjoy some low pressure creative time with your instrument!
Molly O’Roark – HONK, HONK! Harping with Harpo Marx
Ever wanted to learn more about one the world’s most famous and outrageous harpists? This lecture recital follows the career of Harpo Marx, Hollywood’s loudly silent star, and how the harp became his onscreen voice.
Noël Wan – If You're Lost in Transcription ...
Have you ever felt uncertain about starting a transcription? Noël discusses re-imagining the pedal harp's sound and techniques in her harp transcription of Leo Brouwer's solo guitar work El Decamerón negro.
