Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Music is designed for students whose academic interests within music are broad or interdisciplinary. The B.A. in music is highly flexibly and will help students prepare for graduate study in music theory, composition, music technology, or the various branches of musicology.

The University of Illinois School of Music offers the following options within the Bachelor of Arts:

Students enrolled in a B.A. degree take courses in the four following areas:

• General Education Courses (30 Hours)
• Music Core Required Courses (33 Hours)
• Option-Specific Music and Related Courses (19-21 hours)
• Open Elective Courses (37 Hours)

Students will work with their adviser to select option-specific course work. Each option has different course offerings and application requirements and procedures. Click on each option above to see specific requirements and application procedures.

Applied lessons are available if students pass an audition and there is available capacity in the desired studio.
