Kirsten Barker received the Humanities Research Institute Campus Fellowship themed “Story and Place” for her project “Max of the Antarctic: Stories of ‘Wilderness’ in Music and Word.” Her fellowship project will contribute to her dissertation on British Antarctic music as well as a forthcoming article about landscape and change in Peter Maxwell Davies’s Antarctic Symphony. Participating in the fellowship will allow her to engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue with other campus fellows.
Colin Hochstetler was selected as a Junior Fellow for the Library of Congress’s summer internship program and will be working on the “Office of War Information Collection Lacquer Processing project” at the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center. He will gain experience in curating and navigating archival collections by preparing recordings of 1940s radio broadcasts for public access. The fellowship also requires Colin to conduct research on and for the collection, work which will be useful for his thesis on music in U.S. planetariums 1930–1970.
Kirsten and Colin are both looking forward to the unique opportunities that their respective fellowships will provide!
