UIUC School of Music Professor Pete ‘Afro D’ Shungu will be releasing his new album “Bridges Not Walls”, with a party on Saturday, November 15, at 7 PM at the Gallery Art Bar in Urbana. Part listening party and part live performance, attendees will be able to hear all of the tracks from the album, see live performances from Afro D (on the mic and on the trumpet) and special guests, and buy the album in CD form or through Bandcamp (the link to buy online will be made available at the event). Event attendees will also be able to pre-order the album on Vinyl! Photos, lyrics and other materials related to the album will be projected during the event, creating a full immersive experience.
“Bridges Not Walls” is an 8-track musical journey blending a variety of genres including Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Afrobeat, Mariachi and Congolese Rumba. The album blends dope music with powerfully-crafted, multilingual lyrics, which highlight the need to build ‘bridges, not walls.’ The cover art for the album was designed by fellow FAA Professor Stacey Robinson.
