The final Wind Symphony concert of 2023 features new U of I Bassoon Professor Ben Roidl-Ward as soloist in Augusta Read Thomas’ distinctive concerto for bassoon and winds, “Carnival.” A new work by Carlos Simon, and classic pieces by Bach, and Schoenberg transform traditional melodies and forms. The program concludes with an unusual combination of three distinctive and timeless works by Sousa.
