Guest Lecture
Dr. Chen is a Distinguished Professor of Composition at the University of Missouri– Kansas City Conservatory. She was elected to American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2005, and the American Academy of Arts & Letters in 2019. She has won numerous awards and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2006.
This event is funded by the Kang Endowed Lectureship Series and co-sponsored through the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, and the Lorado Taft Lectureship on Art Fund through the College of Fine and Applied Arts.
Dr. Chen will lecture about several of her compositions and place these works in a rich contextual narrative, drawing on her experiences growing up in China, studies in the United States and China, and her international composition and teaching career.
