Chamber Music Coaching with Chen Yi
Dr. Chen is a Distinguished Professor of Composition at the University of Missouri– Kansas City Conservatory. She was elected to American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2005, and the American Academy of Arts & Letters in 2019. She has won numerous awards and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2006.
This event is funded by the Kang Endowed Lectureship Series and co-sponsored through the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, and the Lorado Taft Lectureship on Art Fund through the College of Fine and Applied Arts.
Dr. Chen will coach Jack Thorpe (saxophone), Noah Livingston (flute), Laura Gaynon (cello) and Yarong Guan (piano) in performances of her works Night Thoughts and Chinese Ancient Dances. Through the coaching, Dr. Chen and the musicians will discuss performance practice of her music as well as her artistic philosophy and composition practice.
