Full Schedule for Carol Ourada Residency
Carol Ourada is an instructor and Cello Coordinator at the Wheaton College Community School of the Arts. Carol’s studio primarily consists of cello students of all levels, with violin, viola, and bass students as well. Her students have performed in master classes at music conferences, chosen as soloist with youth orchestras, placed in music competitions, and have been section leaders at school, ILMEA and youth orchestras. Carol teaches string groups, reading classes, Creative Ability Development improvisation, chamber music and directs the CSA Cello Choir performing group. From 2006-2022, she coordinated and taught in the CODA outreach program serving refugee and at-risk students. Currently she teaches in the new initiative, West Chicago String Connection. Both programs partner with a local public school district. She also has taught in the public schools.
In 2007, ASTA awarded her Outstanding Studio Teacher of Illinois. She has served on the Suzuki Association Board of Directors and was the coordinator for the 12th Biennial SAA Conference. Carol has presented at national and regional conferences and is a frequent clinician at workshops and Suzuki institutes around the country. She has played with the Elgin Symphony and now is with DuPage Symphony.
Carol earned her music education degree from the University of Illinois, where she studied with Gabriel Magyar and participated in Paul Rolland’s summer workshops. She also is a member of SAI. She studied violin with Shinichi Suzuki in Matsumoto in 1985, has further cello studies with Dr. Tanya Carey, and Suzuki training in cello, violin, viola, double bass, and early childhood training.
My time at the University of Illinois gave me a solid foundation for teaching excellence in the studio, in the schools and at music institutes. The performance opportunities, observation and teaching experiences further built up my skills for my career. I still draw upon the principles and techniques taught in my lessons, Rolland training, and music education classes.
