Concert of Propositional Music of David Rosenboom

An audience is invited to experience a composing and performing practice in which music emerges from a process of making propositions and building musical models. A sonorous opening launches the journey with 3D diffusion of resonances discovered in interacting harmonic and subharmonic tones from instruments or electronic sources. A brainwave music piece emerges from this sound environment in which two active imaginative listeners perform with their EEGs to generate an electronic sound tapestry in which Rosenboom joins with his e-vioviola to form a biocybernetic trio shaping the structure of the musical output. Next, Rosenboom performs several compositions embodying his model-building practice with a Yamaha Disklavier computer-interfaced piano, interactive software instruments, and modular electronics, often inspired by poetic-philosophic musings about human conditions, our Earth, qualities of stability and instability, and evolution. Finally, the Illinois Modern Ensemble directed by composer Stephen Taylor presents the results of imparting the approach of proposition-making in the performance of an epic art manifesto with socio-political references. Immersive multimedia art and film materials accompany several compositions.
