About Dr. Voris
Dr. Wade Voris is Teaching Assistant Professor in Music Theory and Composition at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Ph.D. in Music Theory from Indiana University in 2026, where his dissertation, “A Neo-Kurthian Theory of Melodic Energetics,” explored the theories of Ernst Kurth, proposing an analytical method which might make Kurth’s notions of musical energetics more applicable in analysis. His research continues to explore Neo-Kurthian approaches to music analysis, including an interest in discerning a theory of musical form drawn from Kurth’s analyses of Anton Bruckner’s symphonies in his book Bruckner.
Before joining the faculty at the University of Illinois, Voris taught courses in written and aural music theory at Indiana University and Butler University. Dr. Voris has presented at regional and national conferences, including Music Theory Midwest and the Society for Music Theory.
