The School of Music at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is honored to announce the investiture of Dr. Linda R. Moorhouse as the Suzanne and William Allen Distinguished Professor in Music. This prestigious professorship, established through the generous bequest of Suzanne Allen, embodies her lifelong passion for music and commitment to fostering excellence in the arts.
Suzanne Allen created the Suzanne and William Allen Distinguished Professorship in Music to honor the legacy of her late husband, William Allen, a celebrated architect with a distinguished fifty-year career in Southern California. She entrusted the university with appointing this professorship to an individual who exemplifies outstanding expertise and academic excellence in the field of music. A devoted supporter of the University of Illinois, Suzanne had a deep appreciation for piano and classical music. In addition to this professorship, she also established the Suzanne and William Allen Architecture Fund at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Moorhouse, serves as Professor of Music and the Director of the School of Music at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She contributes to the campus community through her roles with the University Senate, the University Senates Conference, the Athletic Board, and the University of Illinois System-wide Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Council. Before her current role, she served for eight years as the School’s Associate Director and Director of Undergraduate Studies, and prior to that, she led the University Bands program within the School of Music. She was also a 2020-21 Fellow in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Academic Leadership Program.
