Illini Strings is proudly represented by students from all colleges across the U of I campus. They will perform works from the traditional string repertoire, as well as feature new and emerging composers. This season will include works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Florence Price, Tichelli, and others.
Stravinsky’s iconic Firebird Suite takes center stage in Philharmonia’s final concert of the season. From the driving Infernal Dance to the majestic Finale, a breathlessly magical soundscape unfolds as a classic Russian fairy tale is portrayed through music. Preceding the Firebird is a premiere of a new composition by Nathan Sawyer, an introspective work expressing his joy at having worked with the musicians of the Philharmonia.
