Justin Vickers (DMA, 2011; BM 1996) was recently named a Distinguished Professor at Illinois State University. Dr. Vickers joins a select group of professors who have been recognized with this the highest honor granted to a professor at Illinois State.
At the University of Illinois his doctoral dissertation, on the subject of Michael Tippet’s song cycle The Heart’s Assurance, received the 2014 Nicholas Temperley Prize for Excellence in a Dissertation. At Illinois State, he has been recognized multiple times for his research, and was a Fulbright Scholar (UK, 2020-2021), conducting research Benjamin Britten’s “Red House.”
Dr. Vickers joined the faculty of the School of Music at Illinois State in 2012, where he now serves as a professor of voice.
