The U of I Jazz Area is proud to announce that our U of I Jazz Trombone ensemble was awarded the status of Runner-Up in the 2026 International Trombone Association’s Melba Liston Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition. This ensemble has previously won this competition twice, in 2012 and 2017 along with having won the American Trombone Workshop’s National Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition 6-times (2012, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2023).
The International Trombone Association (ITA) is the world’s largest association of trombonists with 4,000 members from 74 countries. Formed in 1972, the ITA is a registered non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the trombone and all trombone-related activities across the world. The International Trombone Association was formed to be a vital resource for anyone involved in trombone playing, whether for personal enjoyment or as a professional pursuit.
