Felipe Hoyos-González, a current DMA student in Music Composition and Theory, has been chosen as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Beth Morrison Projects (BMP): Next Gen program. His composition, “Toccata Moderata do Timbre de la Porta Principale,” written for soprano and electronics, has earned him a place in this flagship initiative dedicated to supporting early-career composers in opera and music theater.
First launched during the 2017–18 season, the BMP: Next Gen program was established to empower and inspire the next generation of visionary composers, singers, and artists. This year, ten exceptional composers were selected from a competitive pool of over 140 applicants. Their works will be showcased in concert at National Sawdust on November 23–24 in New York City. Following these performances, Beth Morrison and a panel of esteemed industry luminaries will select two finalists to receive commissions for a 30-minute opera-theater work, which will be fully produced by BMP.
Beth Morrison, BMP’s President and Creative Producer, remarked on the announcement:
“I am beyond thrilled to welcome ten new visionary composers to the BMP community! These early-career artists embody BMP’s commitment to welcoming new creators to the professional opera and music-theatre field. I can’t wait to introduce them to the world in November!”
