U of I Saxophonists Advance to Regional Competition

Several saxophonists from the School of Music competed successfully at the Illinois Music Teachers' National Association (MTNA) competitions held at Bradley University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. 

The Anabru Saxophone Quartet (the U of I Grad Saxophone Quartet) won First Place in the MTNA Wind Chamber Music Competition and saxophonist

Gabriel Piqué (with pianist Casey Dierlam) won First Place in the MTNA Illinois State Young Artist Woodwind Solo Competition.  Saxophonist Evan Clark received Honorable Mention.

They will all compete in the East-Central Division Chamber and Solo competitions January 6-7 to be held here at the University of Illinois. MTNA Division Level Winners will move on to compete at the MTNA National Competitions to be held March 17-21, 2018 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fl.

The members of the Anabru Saxophone Quartet are:
Evan Clark, soprano saxophone
Michael Chapa, alto saxophone
Wilson Poffenberger, tenor saxophone
Gabriel Piqué, baritone saxophone

The Anabru Quartet is coached by Professor Debra Richtmeyer.
