Two Music Students Recognized for Excellence by Grad College
The School of Music is proud to announce that doctoral students Reginald Chapman (Jazz) and Jamil Jorge (Musicology) will be recognized by the Graduate College at the upcoming Celebrating Diversity, Recognizing Excellence ceremony on March 12 for their achievements in research and creative activities.
Reginald Chapman, trombonist, has gained much national recognition as a jazz musician in award-winning big bands, orchestras, and rock groups, and has appeared on professional jazz albums. Recently, he played on Matthew E. White’s “Fresh Blood” (2015), Bedouine’s self-titled LP (2017), and Foxygen’s “Hang” (2017).
Jamil Jorge was one of only two University of Illinois graduate students to win a fellowship to attend the summer 2018 "Humanities Without Walls" pre-doctoral workshop. His doctoral research is on intersectionality in US drum corps communities, including Black, Latinx, Asians, women and LGBTQ populations.
Congratulations Reginald and Jamil!
