The University of Illinois School of Music is thrilled to present “Illinois Summer Music ONLINE!” (ISMO), a series of virtual workshops and classes open to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Throughout the month of July, ISMO will offer a broad spectrum of workshops on exciting and relevant musical topics and on career guidance, each led by the School’s world-renowned faculty.

All sessions are free of charge and open to anyone with musical ambitions and interests.

“In a typical year, we would be preparing to welcome close to 1,000 students to our campus for Illinois Summer Youth Music in June and July,” says School of Music Director Jeffrey Sposato. “Illinois Summer Music Online is our way of serving the ISYM students who would have joined us this summer, as well as say ‘thank you’ to our past participants, our  School of Music alumni, and music educators and students across the state and around the world. During these challenging times, we want to offer free access to the highest level of musical instruction, as well as provide a space for togetherness and growth for our music community.”

Highlights of ISMO include discussions about leadership and career paths in music, workshops on healthy music practices, introductions to jazz improvisation and styles, composition workshops, and interactive seminars on various kinds of music.

ISMO will begin its inaugural run on July 6, 2020 with the final session taking place on July 31.
