Remembering Jack Ranney
Jack served on the faculty and staff of the University of Illinois School of Music in many roles throughout his tenure beginning in 1980 until his retirement in 2005. He taught courses in string pedagogy and conducting, conducted the Illini Symphony, and placed and coached student teachers through majoring in Music Education.
Jack also shared many hours, passion, and dedication to engagement programs at the School of Music including Illinois Summer Youth Music, Allerton String Chamber Symposia, Illinois Orchestra Clinics, and many other events that inspired young and aspiring musicians. After retirement, he remained active with youth and community orchestras around the state, continuing to conduct groups such as the Parkland College Orchestra, an ensemble he led for over 25 years.
He will be greatly missed by the faculty, staff, and students who had the pleasure of knowing him and working with him. Details regarding a celebration of life will be forthcoming by the family soon.
