The School of Music and the College of Fine and Applied Arts are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Sposato to serve as the next Director of the School of Music.

Dr. Sposato will assume his new post, pending approval of the Board of Trustees, on August 16, 2019.

He is currently Associate Director of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, where he has served on the musicology faculty since 2007; his previous leadership roles include service as Director of Graduate Studies at the Moores School and as head of the music program at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.

FAA Dean Kevin Hamilton writes: "From accreditation review through curricular transformation, the founding of study abroad programs, or the staging of historically re-enacted performances, Dr. Sposato has served in administrative, research, teaching, and performance roles touching on most every aspect of what it takes to run a leading school of music."

"I’m extremely honored to have been selected as the next director of the School of Music at the University of Illinois," says Dr. Sposato. "Throughout my career as a musician and educator, I have been aware of the national and international reputation that the School holds in the areas of performance and scholarship. The School is already excelling in so many areas, and the Krannert Center is a world-class resource that benefits both the university and the community in truly unique ways. I look forward to working with Dean Hamilton, my faculty colleagues, and our students, alumni, and friends in raising the School to the next level."

"One reason I accepted this position," he added, " is because I truly believe that the School of Music is a place where bright, motivated students can have it all: a conservatory-style music education, but one that takes place in the context of a world-class research university with all that offers. This makes us special, and I want to work with my colleagues and with our alumni to get that message out across the state and the country."

Dr. Sposato also said that two of his initial goals are "ensuring that students are trained broadly so as to provide them with multiple career options after graduation and working to integrate the School of Music more fully into the university’s overall research culture."
