Fischoff Winners Have Strong Ties To Illinois
Two U of I saxophone alums and one incoming saxophone DMA student are members of the Fuego Saxophone Quartet from Eastman that are Wind Division Gold Medal Winners in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition this past week.
Nicki Roman graduated from Illinois with her MM in 2014 and just completed her third year in the DMA degree program at the Eastman School of Music.
Erik Elmgren earned his BM from Illinois in 2015 and just graduated with his MM degree from Eastman.
Gabriel Pique, who just completed his MM degree at Eastman, will come to Illinois this fall to begin his DMA studies as a U of I Graduate College Fellowship winner.
The Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, now in its 44th year, is the largest & longest running chamber music competition in the nation, and attracts the finest young instrumentalists from across the country and around the world. Twenty-eight nationalities applied. Forty-nine were accepted and competed in five rounds of competition.

In addition to the prize money, they and the String Division Gold Winners will participate in Fischoff's Double Gold Tour of the Midwestern United States this fall.
