Distinguished Music Alumna Sheila Johnson to Receive Honorary Degree
The School of Music’s petition to recognize entrepreneur, film producer, and philanthropist Sheila Johnson (B.S. Music Education, 1970) with an honorary degree has been approved by the campus Academic Senate and awaits final approval by the Board of Trustees.
As a student, she studied with pioneering violin pedagogue Paul Rolland, then extended his legacy before turning her sights to a groundbreaking television enterprise. Since then she has endowed the Daniel J. Perrino Chair in Music and the Susan Starrett Violin Scholarships in honor of two of her teachers. Sheila credits her success to her transformative studies at the University of Illinois School of Music.
