Carlos Carrillo Receives Major Grant From Chamber Music America
Chamber Music America recently announced commissioning awards totaling nearly $1.3 Million in several categories. Professor Carrillo is one of twelve composers selected to compose a new work in the Classical Commissioning category, and will compose a new piece for the Third Coast Percussion ensemble from Chicago.
Composers and performers apply together and their entries are judged by an independent peer panel. The several categories of awards include commissions for new works in both classical and jazz, as well as awards to arts presenters and the newly-created Digital Residency awards.
With over 13 album releases – plus appearances on many others – Grammy Award winning Third Coast Percussion is a leading proponent of new music for percussion quartet. They previously appeared alongside the U of I Symphony Orchestra on Astral Canticle, a collection of music by Augusta Read Thomas on the Nimbus label.
