The requirements outlined below are for non-Accompanying candidates who wish to be considered for the Accompanying Assistantship.
Accompanying Assistantship Audition Requirements
Non-Accompanying candidates may apply for an Accompanying Assistantship by uploading an unedited video recording of items the items below to School of Music box folder by January 15, 2021. Please also email Music Admissions to notify us that you wish to be considered for the assistantship.
1. A solo movement of the applicant’s choice (memorization not required).

2. One movement from any string sonata or chamber work by Beethoven or Brahms.
After your video audition has been received, you will be scheduled for an interview on one of the virtual audition dates. For the interview, the applicant must be able to receive a pdf via email (or view the pdf on a shared screen via zoom), and have access to a piano or 88-note digital keyboard in order to play a sight-reading excerpt.
Please note: Applicants auditioning for the Accompanying Assistantship need only prepare requirements 1 and 2 and will be asked to sight-read during the online interview.
Current students: Current University of Illinois School of Music students must contact the Accompanying Division Chair for permission to apply for an accompanying assistantship.
Non-native english speakers must have a 24 or higher on the speaking section of the TOEFL in order to qualify for the assistantship.
